John let out a bored sigh as he sat on a bench in the back of the nightclub. This was supposed to be guys night out - so much for that, Dave was on a date with his girlfriend, Karkat had to finish a project before class tomorrow, and Jake and Dirk were both "sick" - riiiiiiiight. Worst of all, nobody bothered to fill him in on this until after he got to the club.
He figured it would be a shame if he left after driving an hour to get here - but so far it so totally wasn't worth it. "You know, most people come to a night club to - I don’t know, have fun, not mope around on a bench in the back." An amused voice from beside him spoke.
John turned his head in surprise and found himself looking up at a girl around his age, maybe a year or so younger, leaning against the wall beside him. Her eyes were focused on the band performing on stage on the other side of the room, but her words were obviously directed at him.
He just stared at her for a moment, taking in her appearance. (h/c) hair framed her face, while a sky blue cocktail dress accented her (s/c) skin - John could have sworn he had seen her somewhere before, but he just couldn't put his finger on it.
The girl finally turned and looked down at him, (e/c) orbs meeting his own. "Friends ditched you didn't they? Don't worry, I know the feeling." she sighed before nodding her head over to a girl a little ways away who was clearly doing some hardcore flirting with a guy she'd probably known for all of ten minutes.
John looked back to the girl and nodded, the girl sighed and pushed off the wall, taking two long strides and spinning on her heels to face him before she leaned over and held out her hand, "Name's (y/n), and I was thinking that since I'm alone, and you're alone, we might as well be alone together, let the haters hate and all that jazz, yeah?" she said with a chuckle.
John smiled lightly, brushing of his feeling of dejavu as he gripped (y/n)'s hand and stood up, "That would be fun, I suppose." John said lightly.
(Y/n) in turn grinned and gave his hand a yank, pulling John along behind her as she bounded off towards the dance floor, her pleasantly infectious laughter invading his ears. Upon reaching the dance floor, (y/n) once again spun on her heels and pulled John towards her before allowing her fingers to slip though his grasp as she spun into her own little dance routine, body moving perfectly in time to the music. John couldn’t help but stand there for a moment and just stare it her.
(y/n) caught his gaze and pouted slightly before grabbing his hands and pulling him into her little routine, "I'll have you know that I will not be the only one dancing like a moron." she huffed, John was half tempted to point out that she was probably one of the best dancers in the place, but kept it to himself.
"Misery loves company?" John asked with a grin.
"That it does, mate, that it does." (y/n) chuckled as she spun herself under John's arm.
Alright, so it wasn’t guys night, but it was still pretty amazing - perhaps even better than guys night would have been. The pair danced through that song and many more before they had their fill, and decided to retreat to the bar for a break from the crowded dance floor.
"I'll just have a club soda." (y/n) told the bartender after John had ordered his beer.
He looked over to her curiously, she merely shrugged in response as their drinks arrived. Somehow the two got to chatting about various things including school - (y/n) was apparently failing her cinematography course - and friends - the girl (y/n) was with had apparently dragged her here to play as wing woman while she scoped out guys - and family - (y/n) apparently had siblings up the wazoo back home in (home state).
The two continued to chat about nothing in particular until (y/n) suddenly stopped in the middle of her very humorous re-telling of her family reunion last summer break. She looked over to him, eyes gleaming as a slow song that John had never heard before suddenly began blaring from the DJ booth. (for at this point the band from earlier was long gone)
"Oh I love this song! C'mon, what do you say we have one last dance?" (y/n) chirped as she quickly finished off her soda and slid off the barstool. John let out a sigh as he smiled, one last dance sounded nice, "Sure." (y/n) smiled in delight and once again tugged John off towards the center of the dance floor.
Something about (y/n) was bugging John - in a good way, sorta. He was confused as to why he could feel so at home with a complete stranger, a girl that he had known for all of two hours. And more importantly, he wanted to know why for the past hour of it he had been getting the incredibly uncontrollable urge to kiss her. Maybe it was the beer talking, he didn't know - but there was no mistaking the way that he was suddenly attracted to this random girl who had decided that they 'might as well be alone together.'
It wasn't helping that John's not-so-sharp brain didn't process the fact that this was a slow dance until it was already too late and he quickly found his hands on (y/n)'s hips while her arms were draped around his neck as they slowly drifted side to side with the rhythm. To think that if this was guys night, he and his friends would be at a table in the back cracking jokes about all the sappy couples.
Now you were one of the sappy couples. Wait- what, no- you and (y/n) weren't a couple but-
"You certainly could fool anybody with the way you're dancing with her." A voice whispered in the back of his head.
John rolled his eyes inwardly and his stupid inner thoughts. He glanced down at (y/n) who's forehead rest against his shoulder her (e/c) eyes looking a tad melancholy. "What's up?" he asked silently. (y/n) stirred, lifting her head from his shoulder and looking up at him.
"Nothing - just remembering a tad too late that guys don't really like slow dances do they? I'm probably boring you to death aren't I?" She chuckled lightly.
"No, I'm having fun." John replied softly.
(y/n) him dead in the eye, seemingly searching for any trace of doubt - she could find any.
"You know this is actually the first time I've danced with a guy?" she asked suddenly.
"Seriously?" John asked, taken slightly aback.
"Yeah - I came close at senior prom back in highschool, my date was this guy in my physics class, it was one of those, 'we both don’t have dates so let's go together' type of deals." she said with a sigh.
"So kind of like what we're doing now?" John thought to himself.
"Anyways, we pretty much ignored each other all night, well, more like I avoided him - he tried to hunt me down while I hid behind my friends whenever I saw him; I was really shy back then. Anyways, I ended up leaving right as the slow dance started - he caught me at the exit, you don't know how horrible I felt telling him that I was actually just going to walk home. Because even if it was one of those circumstantial pairings - I still had really liked him."
"Sounds eerily familiar…" John thought, remembering his own highschool prom experience.
"I promised myself that if I ever got the chance I would make it up to him."
"Did you?" John asked.
"What do you think I'm doing now, Egderp." She asked, looking up at him with a smile.
John looked at her, trying to register what she was saying before he realized something - he never did tell (y/n) his name did he? The answer hit him like a ton of bricks; she was that (y/n). The (y/n) that he had crushed on all through senior year. The (y/n) that he worked up the nerve to ask to prom; only to chicken out and add, "Because you're going alone, and I'm going alone - so I figured it would be more fun if we went alone together." god he was so stupid.
"That was you?" John asked dumbfounded.
(y/n) chuckled nervously, "Yeah, I'm still really sorry about that, by the way - I saw you sitting by yourself earlier and was all, Is that John Egbert? Whelp - might as well go be alone together~"
John laughed lightly at her portrayal of herself. Then a thought hit him, "So you really liked me did you?" he asked with a smirk.
(y/n) blushed as she looked down at her feet, "You caught that, huh?"
John chuckled at her embarrassment, "Well, for the record, I really liked you back then, too."
(y/n) looked up at him quickly, (e/c) eyes slightly wide as a bright blush plastered her face, "Seriously?"
"Seriously - though I can't believe that I didn't recognize you earlier."
"Neither could I, and here I recognized you right away; yet again, you always did have those ridiculous buck teeth and boyish features - that, and I have still yet to see anybody with eyes quite as blue as yours." (y/n) said in a teasing tone.
"For the record, I still do like you quite a bit." John said seriously.
(y/n) looked up at him, her scarlet blush from earlier reappearing on the double, John chuckled at her reaction and before he had even realized what he was doing he planted a kiss on her lips. (y/n) froze for a moment before her arms tightened around his neck as she stood on her tip toes, leaning easily into the kiss as she angled her head to the side.
Alright - so maybe prom was a bust, but hey - at least they finally got to be alone together.

Let's be alone together. Karkat x Reader
You watched the party unfold as you drank the rest of your flat soda. Your good friend, Terezi, was making her way onto the dance floor. Part of you wanted to move to the center of the room and talk to everyone, but you weren't much of a party person. While all the other girls were in dresses, you had opted for skinny jeans and a nice blouse. You grabbed your hoodie, figuring you could sneak out without anyone notici-
"Pretty lame party, huh?" You heard someone say behind you.
You turned around and looked at the all too familiar guy. His hair was a beautiful mess (was that even possible?) and he was wearing his usual black sweater. You love

John x Reader- How Far We've Come
Hello
Hello
Hello
Waking up at the start of the end of the world,
But it's feeling just like every other morning before,
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone
Sitting on the edge of the plateau his house rested on, above the empty chasm below that his planet filled; John swung his legs.
After so many months of playing that game, he somehow got used to this life. It felt normal now, living in this world with salamanders that blew bubbles and his ability to do the windy thing and fly.
But, he couldn't help wondering, what if he hadn't been destined to play Sburb?
What if he was like the ordinary folk who had died back on
